Regarding birth control, is it still effective the week after you take the ';blank'; pills with the active ones?

I've read that you should use secondary contraception during the first seven days of starting the pill. Does this mean the week after you don't take it to have a period? The way it goes is a 3 week on and then have a one week period. Then you start the active pills again.Regarding birth control, is it still effective the week after you take the ';blank'; pills with the active ones?
No, you don't have to use back-up every time you start a new pack of pills. That's only when starting the pill initially. The first three weeks of pills are taken to prevent ovulation; without ovulation, pregnancy is impossible. The bleeding during the placebo week is actually withdrawal bleeding rather than a period per se.Regarding birth control, is it still effective the week after you take the ';blank'; pills with the active ones?
I believe it means when you start the pills initially. Not your first week after the sugar pills every month. Not 100% thou, call your pharmacist, they should be able to answer this.
