I was diagnosed with Gestational diabetes. At what level do you normally get put on insulin to control it?

I obviously know you get insulin when it is uncontrolled by diet but my one hour test was at 265. I am scared because I meet with the specialist on the 10th, and my doc said it is too dangerous to even do the three hour test.I was diagnosed with Gestational diabetes. You don't need a 3 hour test with results like you had! You need to ask for a consult with a Diabetic Educator/Dietician ASAP. Call your doctor on Monday and ask him/her for a referral to one now, or call the endocrinologist that you are seeing on the 10th and ask for an appt sooner than the 10th....at least with the RN or diabetes educator.I was diagnosed with Gestational diabetes. with a number that high on the 1 hour test they may put you right on insulin and a strict diet as that is very high for the 1 hour test, mine was 180 and I also failed my 3 hour test. I am now on a strict diet to try and control it, my doctor said my numbers at 130-140 after dinner are still too high and that if after a week they do not see a change in my numbers (meaning if I cant control it with diet) they will most likely put me on insulin at dinner time everyday to help control that number. Don't be scared, just try watching your carb intake until your appointment, it is really hard to do when you are pregnant, but I had to cut out things like cakes, cookies, icecream, candy, and really anything else that contains a lot of carbs/sugar. I was craving tacos my whole pregnancy and now I have to stick with taco salads because the amount of carbs in just one taco shell would be my carb limit for that meal, which obviously one taco would not fill my belly up. Just follow what the doctor/dietician/specialist says and you will be fine, it will be hard at first, but you will adjust and remember that it is all for your baby =) Good luck!
