Conscience - pretty neat - it's the old SuperEgo of Freud. It's the voice of your parents or parents you created.





It's a naturally occurring function of the human mind. The religious nuts always figure they created it - that without their religion, people would be without a conscience and just run around killing people - but it just ain't true. All humans have a conscience.





And why would all humans have a conscience which tells them ';right'; from ';wrong';? - it's a survival mechanism - a very important one too. It allows us humans to live together in large groups and not just immediately kill each other.





So we have survived very well - we're there to help each other. But we wouldn't be if we didn't have a voice to tell us to do things which are helpful to our tribe.What is conscience, where does it come from and why can't we control it?
