my mother swears that its because i am stressed and i have anxiety. i honestly dont think i have stress and anxiety as extreme to be grinding my teeth at night. she says that people feel this without even knowing they have it and this is especially true if you are from a big populated city like mine (chicago).
is this true? is that the reason why i gring my teeth? or can it be something else?I grind my teeth at night and i dont know how to control it?
Stress or anxiety can cause a person to clench or grind (brux) but so can a wild dream. There is no cause or cure for grinding. A perfectly happy content person can grind their teeth and have no idea it is happening. Having so much pressure being given to your teeth at night will eventually wear them down, become loose, crack or loose bone holding the teeth in. Big city has nothing to do with anything. You need to have a NGA (night guard/bite guard/ sleep appliance) made by a dentist to wear while you sleep. DO NOT get the over the counter kind, it can cause more damage than good. Do a Google search. I grind my teeth at night and i dont know how to control it?
I honestly don't know why people grind their teeth ( I had braces and since then my teeth are sooo sensitive). They do have a night guard you can buy at Walmart for a few bucks though if you were looking for something to help not do it if you are.
Practice some relaxing techniques. Avoid caffeine, as in cola drinks, in the afternoon and evening.
