How long after you start on birth control does it become effective?

I've heard 7 days, a month, or 3 months. How long after you start on birth control does it become effective?
my friend is getting married in July and her doctor told her she has to start taking the pill 3 months before....How long after you start on birth control does it become effective?
it depends on what kind you are taking. for the ones that last a month, pills, patch, ring, etc it's after you've been taking them for a month and once you've had your period and starttaking them again is when they are working.
The depo shot, when taken when during your period, has immediate results. When taken before or after your period, has a 7 day waiting period.

I recommend the shot-- no pill to take everyday and more effective.
With the brand that I took I was told 30 days by my doctor.

After you start your first period after taking the pill.
