I started taking Tri-Sprintec about three weeks ago. All the literature I've read and the instructions in my packet say that it is okay to have sex without a condom after taking the pill 7 consecutive days, but I just wanted to check out other people's experiences with this. When is it safe for my husband and me to have sex without a condom without fear of pregnancy? How long after starting birth control is it safe to have unprotected sex?
All the websites below will verify this.
If you start the combination pill within five days after the start of your period, take the first active pill of the first pack. You will not need to use a back up method of birth control. You are protected against pregnancy immediately.
If you start the combination pill at any other time during your menstrual cycle, take the first active pill of the first pack. Use another method of birth control if you have vaginal intercourse during the first week of combination pill use 鈥?protection will begin after seven days. How long after starting birth control is it safe to have unprotected sex?
first rule to birth control - always ALWAYS - go by the instruction packet. that said, there is always the possibility that pregnancy will occur, but you have probably reached that 98% of avoiding pregnancy by taking the pill for 7 consecutive days.
Just do it now. You'll be fine.
I've read anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months depending on the brand. Ask your doctor to be sure but keep in mind that the pill won't prevent any STDs.
Usually the time is 7 - 14 days with any type of birth control pill. If you have any other questions, call the dr. or nurse that prescribed it...they will know better!
even on the pill its not safe to have unprotected sex.
the pill only protects agains pregnancy, not STD's
It depends when you started taking the pill. If you started during your period then you are protected after seven days of pills (some of them say you are protected immediately) if you started after your period had ended then you should wait for a month - you may have ovulated in the time between the end of your period and the start of taking the pills, so you should wait until that egg has been flushed out in your next period.
But just go with the instructions that come with the pills - they tend to get sued if they get things like that wrong, so they research them pretty well, and know what they are talking about.
As long as you take it as directed for the first 7 days, you should be ok
You need to wait at least three months. But if you do not want to have the chance of becoming pregnant then you need to use condoms also. But 3 months is usually the norm.
