the french led by napoleon invaded egypt in the 18th c
the british occupied egypt for in the 19th c and stayed for about 60 years.
they wanted to control it bec of its strategic geographical situation.they wanted to have the suez canal under their control.
they were forced to leave after the tripartite attack in 1956 .In Egypt, which Eurpeans laid claim to the country, why did they want to control it ,and How did they affect it
Egypt was first invaded by the Macedonian Greeks, Alexander the Great and gave the rule of Egypt to the Macedonian Ptolemies.
It was then the turn of the Romans who introduced Christianity and made Egypt part of the Roman Empire.
The French troops of Napoleon came here to ward of the British. This resulted in French rule making Egypt a colony until it was past back into the hands of Egyptians and the introduction once more of a royal line of Egypt.
Go to Tour Egypt website and you can research the history of foreign rule in the great history archives that are on the site.
Another alternative would be the B.B.C. history website.
I would advise you to try and avoid wikipedia as in regards to Egyptian history ancient and modern it has many inaccuracies. This is something that you don't want if you are researching for an assignment.
Best of luck hope you get good grades!
search about occupation of egypt by britain, france and zionists
Dear: what everyone said above is really true, but I have to add the main reason that The French and the British were fighting to occupy Egypt, it was for one simple reason India;
Before Inventing the refrigerators, Europe depended mainly on the spices from India to keep the food, for the winter, The only way to preserve that was the spices, that was controlled by the Arabs for long time, when the Europeans reached India , there was a very big problem , The route between India and their countries have to be through Egypt, The Egyptians were taxing the Europeans to let the trade passing through their land, and the French thought if they can cut this route, would be a disaster for the British, that is way there were a competition between them who to occupy Egypt, and the Suez canal l was just a project to facilitate this route, who could control Egypt could control the food for Europe , that is simplify..
Europe technologically owns Egypt. It was the Europeans who built the Suez Canal after all.
Don't get me wrong, I also dislike Europeans greatly though.
Napolean shot the nose of the sphinx...what a silly little man
ultra
how bad,
you seems to forget that 100 000 man had died through digging the canal, that is one hand ,on the second hand, greeks invaded egypt before dgging the canal by (2 years,3 years???)then roman afterwards(how many years was it before digging the canal) the french as well but that is so close
the west always look at our land with greed, they do not realise that it is not the land which is healthy, rich and proud its the people, thats why they tried once and again and again
and i do not mean egypt only here,i mean this area which no passing day without feeling that greed
Egypt has been conquered by several European powers.
You should start with the conquests of Alexander the Great. Some of the most important ways in which this affected Egypt was that they left behind the Hellenic values of philosophy and science. The great library and lighthouse of Alexandria (named after Alexander) were 2 of the ancient wonders of the world, and they were built in Egypt after the Greek invasion. The line of rulers of Egypt after the invasion was called the Ptolemies, or referred to as Ptolemaic Egypt, because the first ruler of Egypt after the conquests of Alexander was Ptolemy I Soter. Cleopatra was the last in the line of Ptolemaic rulers, her rule coming to an end because of the conquest of another European power: Rome.
That should get you a good start, anyway.
