Its my homework, i don't even know if i've phrased it right, so sorry :)
thankyaWhy is the speed of response determined by the number of synapses in a circuit of neurones that control it?
a signal is sent through a neuron cell from the dendron to the cell body and then to the axon by electric signals.
a signal is sent from one neuron to the next neuron by chemical signals ie neurotransmittters released in the synaptic cleft.
therefore, if you have a single neuron connecting two regions of the body the signal would be much faster. the more the number of synapses, the longer it will take since at each axon the electric signal has to be converted to a chemical signal which is released. this chemical signal is then picked up by surrounding denrites that hve to convert it back to an electric signal. this conversion of the signals takes more time than simple passing of the signals.
