When I am on birth control is it possible for me to get pregnant while on antibiotics?

Doctors tend to tell me that i can get pregnant while taking antibiotics even if i am on birth control. They say it lessens the effects of the pill and I should use back up methods. I know that there is always a chance to get pregnant no matter what, but how likely is this?When I am on birth control is it possible for me to get pregnant while on antibiotics?
VERY VERY VERY likely, The Dr.s Are right. same goes to drinking grapefruit Juice while on Birth Control pill ( the acid in it lessons the affect as well)


I would just sustain from having sex while on the Antibiotics, till your system feels better and your no longer on them. Remeber all it takes is just once, Or you could use a condom, but those aren't 100% either. anti biotics are only taken from 3 or 5 or 7 days so you can wait that. Jenna sweetheart, You CAN get pregnant at anytime of the month, though the doctors do say it is unlikely to get pregnant before you ovulate u don't ovulate same day every month, I know cus that is how I concieved my son. blood test said I din't O but got preg. I o'd 19-23 of month concved on the 12

Most antibiotics can possibly make BC pills ineffective or reduce the effectiveness. Be Careful!


You should always use a backup method anyway. (Condoms)

We do know there are certain medicines that diminish the effectiveness of BCPs. The common antibiotics we use shouldn't affect the metabolism of BCPs. However, there have been some anecdotal reports by pill users who became pregnant while taking antibiotics. While the risk is very low, we encourage women to use condoms for the duration of their antibiotic prescription and for the following 7 days.








These things are proven to make BCPs ineffective...


the antibiotic rifampin. Other antibiotics DO NOT make the pill less effective.


certain anti-fungals that are taken orally for yeast infections


certain anti-HIV protease inhibitors


certain anti-seizure medications


St. John's Wort
MUCH more likely. I know a few people personally who got pregnant while on the birth control and antibiotics combo.





If it's only going to be for a few days, abstinence would be a great idea. If it's going to be longer, or he doesn't respect you enough to just wait, then ABSOLUTELY use condoms.
